OPEN AIR

Hummingbird thoughts hover
Over the wire fence, barbed and
Rusty, ready to prick
Tender flesh;
The granite wall with wrought iron
Spears; chains linking hands and
Padlocked; posts and rails
Squaring fields.
Over the stockaded suburban
Fortress, the thorniest barricade of all,
Yes, the birds and clouds freely fly.
